Frequently asked questions

What are the differences between the cover on the four policies you offer - Elite, Executive Premier and Plus?

The items covered on the three policies are exactly the same. It's essentially one policy with different levels of cover - you pay the highest premium for the Elite policy (maximum benefit per year £30,000) and the lowest premium for the Premier policy (maximum benefit per year £10,000). The Executive policy maximum benefit is between the two at £20,000. This means that you can buy a policy that suits your lifestyle and which reflects how much time you spend on the road or how much you need to get around. The Plus policy covers you in the event of disqualification only.

Where will I be covered under this policy?

Throughout the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, including the Isle of Man and the Channel Islands, and in member states of the European Union.

^ Top

Do you cover drink driving?

Definitely not. DriverPlan does not cover drink driving, drugs-related offences or dangerous or reckless driving.

^ Top

Aren't you encouraging speeding?

We would never condone speeding, but we know that careful drivers look at the road when they are driving - you can't always be watching the speedo. It is easy to inadvertently slip over the speed limit or even to be unsure what the speed limit is if the sign has been covered by foliage or a passing lorry. Loss of licence through speeding is just one of the circumstances which we cover, our policies also cover your incapacity to drive if you suffer an accident, or if your car is stolen, and various other unforeseen circumstances. We are always striving to keep you motoring so that you can maintain your lifestyle, keep appointments and maybe even keep your job.

Do I have to have a clean licence to take out a policy?

No, just a current full driving licence. However, if you already have points on your licence they must not be for the offences mentioned above, and if you already have 9 points the maximum annual benefits available are reduced.

^ Top

How do I know which policy will be best for me?

The comparison chart helps you decide on the basis of your annual mileage and your lifestyle. For instance, if you are a top level manager who operates around the country, the Elite policy would suit best. If your main driving is for ferrying the children and getting in the shopping, a Premier policy would probably be enough. There is a direct line to DriverPlan's customer service department if you want to discuss which is the best policy for you. To see which policy is best for you try our risk assessment and premium calculator >.

How do I get payments?

The insurere needs to be advise within 30 days of an incident which may give rise to a claim. They will ask you to submit invoices and receipts for the travel you have had to use. In the case of a potential disqualification claim you would need to give written notice to the Insurer immediately upon receipt of the first piece of correspondence.

^ Top

Are there age limits on the policies?

Yes, policies are restricted to those over 21 who have held a driving licence for at least 2 years.

^ Top

Are there other restrictions?

The exclusions and limitations are all spelt out in the policy wording. For instance, your vehicle must be insured against third party risks.

^ Top

Can my partner be on my policy?

Partners or spouses can be included under the policy and normal discounts will apply. Simply include their details when completing the application form.

^ Top

Can I pay by Direct Debit?

Yes, you can pay monthly by direct debit. These costs are clearly shown on the policy pages.

^ Top

How long do I have to commit for?

One year - all our policies are renewable on an annual basis. You can change cover by adding or replacing people covered by the policy at any time.
